(26) As-Shu'araa: The Poets

سورة الشعراء

كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
160. Belied did the people of Lot, the messengers.

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ لُوطٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
161. For, said to them did their brother Lot, "Do you venerate not?"

إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ
162. "Assuredly I am unto you a trustworthy messenger."

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
163. "So venerate Allah, and obey me."

وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
164. "And I ask you not for it any reward, indeed my reward is but upon the Lord of the worlds."

أَتَأْتُونَ الذُّكْرَانَ مِنَ الْعَالَمِينَ
165. "Do you approach the males of the worlds..."

وَتَذَرُونَ مَا خَلَقَ لَكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِكُم بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ عَادُونَ
166. "...and leave what created for you did your Lord as your spouses? Rather, you are transgressing people."

قَالُوا لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَا لُوطُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْمُخْرَجِينَ
167. They said, "Surely if you cease not, O Lot, you will surely be from the evicted."

قَالَ إِنِّي لِعَمَلِكُم مِّنَ الْقَالِينَ
168. He said, "Assuredly I am unto your deeds from the loathing (ones)."

رَبِّ نَجِّنِي وَأَهْلِي مِمَّا يَعْمَلُونَ
169. "My Lord, rescue me and my family from what they do."

فَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ أَجْمَعِينَ
170. So We rescued him and his family, all together.

إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِي الْغَابِرِينَ
171. Except a senile with those left behind.

ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا الْآخَرِينَ
172. Then We destroyed the others.

وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّطَرًا فَسَاء مَطَرُ الْمُنذَرِينَ
173. And We rained upon them rain, so ill was the rain of the warned.

إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لَآيَةً وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
174. Assuredly in that is a sign, and not were the abundance of them faithful.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الرَّحِيمُ
175. And assuredly your Lord is surely He, The Esteemed, The Most Merciful.

كَذَّبَ أَصْحَابُ الْأَيْكَةِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
176. Belied did the Companions of The Thicket, the messengers.

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ شُعَيْبٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ
177. For, said to them did Shu'aib, "Do you venerate not?"

إِنِّي لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ
178. "Assuredly I am unto you a trustworthy messenger."

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ
179. "So venerate Allah, and obey me."

وَمَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ إِنْ أَجْرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَى رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
180. "And I ask you not for it any reward, indeed my reward is but upon the Lord of the worlds."
